Defining Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is not new, in fact it has been around for well over 10 years.  Wikipedia defines cloud computing as

“location-independent computing, whereby shared servers provide resources, software, and data to computers and other devices on demand”

Sound familiar?  Some common examples of cloud computing are services like Hotmail and Windows Live, Gmail, Messenger, Salesforce.com, Amazon EC2, Azure, Office365, the list goes on.  But what is right for your situation?  What is a private cloud, a public cloud, a hybrid cloud?  Let’s take a look at cloud computing, what the differences are and where they can fit into your organizations needs.  Should you consider adopting a cloud solution?  There are three main types of cloud based services:
